Pistache, male, "labrit" (Pyrenean shepherd) - lost at Port de Lers - Ariège - France

Lost, 04/17/2006, in French Pyrénées, Girantos / Etang de Lers / Coumebière, (Ariège)
Pistache, male, "labrit" (Pyrenean shepherd), cross breed, half labrit half cocker but very labrit,
11 years, middle size, cut tail, red collar hidden in thick hair, no medal nor tattoo,
a small cyst on the spine, at shoulders level, another one in the chick,
easy and very gentle with children, difficult with other dogs

Pistache was lost near the Girantos (=Mont Ceint) summit because of a sudden fog, and some snow. Different valleys are connected to the Girantos : Massat, Vicdessos, Aulus. I think that Pistache descended at Coumebière, in the vaIley of Aulus-les-Bains at 11.00 a.m. We were searching in the mountain and on the roads. The road for Aulus was barred, the pass (Col d'Agnes) was still closed. So we joined Coumebière very late, nearly at night, at 9.00 p.m.
It was during the Easter holidays. Many people were on place in camping cars, ready for a walk in the afternoon or on the next morning. But the weather became very bad, cold and foggy, then some snow. So, being aware there was no chance of a lull, most of them decided to leave.
Pistache could have spend some hours with a group of hikers, then, they might have took him when they left. I can understand it was a pity to ditch a dog in the coming night and the snow...
